PSVita or iPad???

it's dh's birthday soon and neither him nor me have a clue what to get him. Confused

he had a quick fiddle with a PSVita in HMV today and was quite taken with it. he's an ex-gamer BUT 2 small dc have meant he often lets his xbox live membership lapse for many months and doesn't really have much of a chance to game in the evenings (as i don't like watching it on the big tv and its too loud for upstairs)

he is also a loyal worshipper of the gods of apple. so i was thinking of an ipad.
he has a macbook (nearly 3yo) and an ipod and iphone 4s already so is well kitted out. but an ipad seems like something he'd like.

any ideas anyone?

FWIW he had a PSP but it didn't get played with because the stuff produced for it was either too £££ or just a bit lame.

I have an iPad but I use it instead of a laptop. I also use it for the kids to play on when needed but it's my toy primarily.

I have to say ipad.

I think the Vita won't be very popular apart from with hardcore gamers.

The reason is simple. If you are going to spend that much money buying a portable gaming device then you may as well get an iphone/ipod instead.

It can play good enough games and generally you pay between 69p to £4 a game. Compared with £30 a game for the Vita.

Plus the iphone/ipod will handle music and surfing a lot better.

We talked ds fout of getting one for his birthday as he already ahs a PS3 and the Vita is primarily a gaming device - but in your dh's case he does already haev an Ipod and Iphone so teh Ipad maybe won't give him anything much else? (I love the Ipad by teh way - dd has one but we all use it for internet and apps)
The Vita did get rave reviews for gaming..
