Which iPad2?

After dithering for ages I have finally decided to get an iPad. I think I'll probably go for the middle memory - 32GB - but I can't decide whether to get with or without 3G.

Am I right in thinking that without 3G I can only use it where there is wi-fi? And where's there no wi-fi, I can't use it at all or just can't get the internet? How much is 3G likely to cost per month?

Also I have heard that you can't use flash player - how much of an impact does this have?

Is it easy to set up? Me and dh are both rubbish with things like this.

And one last thing - I have heard there is an iPad 3 coming out - do you think it is worth waiting?

There is an ipad3 coming out, lots of rumours about the spec but noone knows for sure yet. I'd have thought it would be out in march/april so I would hold on, though I suspect the ipad3 probably won't be that much different.

Lack of Flash isn't a problem for most websites. Only one I've found it a pain with is bbc news site. But people say that Flash will be defunct in 24 months anyway. There is a youtube app for the ipad so you can still use youtube.

Very easy to set up.

You're kind of right about only being able to use it where there is wifi.....unless you have a smartphone that you can use as a wifi hotspot. My HTC phone does this and it is so easy, I downloaded an app for my phone, click the app. Ipad sees the "wifi output" from my phone and connects on. Slightly slower than my normal wifi but still very good. Other option is to buy a payg mifi from orange and use that as a wifi hotspot if you don't want to pay for a 3g contract for your ipad.

if you've got a smartphone I wouldn't bother getting a 3G version - I've got wifi only but on the rare occasions I've needed to get on the internet and there's been no wifi around, I've tethered it to my phone and got online that way - unless you're going to be out and about with it all the time in a wifi-free area it's not worth the extra £100 or so plus price of the 3G contract

I haven't got a smartphone but may get one in the future. I suppose I then need to decide how much I'll want to use the internet going out and about....?

we have one without 3g and still find it really useful. Have films and apps already on it so can watch/use those out and about. I subscribe to the Ipad Times app and download it at home so I can read it when I'm out. If you need to eg pick up emails you can usually find wifi spot in hotel or Starbucks etc. Guess it depends what you want to do with it.

Thank you, so you don't need internet connection for films and apps etc..?

I had an ipad2 for xmas without 3G. I find most bars, hotels etc have wifi. I download at home and read when out. Have fun.

You download films at home before going out and then you don't need wifi to watch them. Most apps don't need wifi, some do but not many ime.
