Please can anyone shed some light here?

My desktop screen has gone completely mad! Huge icons on desktop; yellow vertical lines and various smudges of pretty colours and general fuzziness of text!

I have changed monitors to rule that problem out first but still the problem exists.

The actual pc is working as normal otherwise and I can still use it- sort of.

Any clues please? Very frustrating indeed.

Have you tried restarting the pc?

trinni · 21/01/2012 18:07

Yes all of that but no change.

It's odd too - the text is a sensible size but the page is too big for the screen IYKWIM? This might be a clue...

Also, the text is in black and purple!!

What version of Windows is it.Is there any chance somebody could have messed with the settings.

trinni · 21/01/2012 18:58

It is Windows Vista.

Usually only I use this pc but occasionally if it's in power saving mode I have to fiddle with the input button on the top of the monitor.

I swapped the monitor though and it was still the same. Might it be the graphics card? I cant make any sense of pictures or photos,

I,m no expert but I would suspect the graphics card if I was confronted with that.I t might be worth posting in the techie section of forums.moneysavingexpert.com/,there is some knowledgable people over there.

You swapped the monitor, but did you use a different cable? May be a cable problem.

Have you tried changing the screen resolution - try changing it to say 800x600... does it work then?

nannynick · 21/01/2012 21:58

Also try restarting in Safe Mode, that will use more basic video drivers and might make it readable.

The black and purple text could be ClearType. The purple is smoothing of the text, which you are seeing because the screen resolution is wrong.

Wrong screen resolution in my view could be causing the issues, so try changing that. If you can navigate menus... Right Click on the desktop background, the menu that appears should give you option for screen resolution or something to modify the graphics. You may need to select an option called Properties, to get to the display settings.

oh thank you all so much!

Number one son called in earlier and did the screen resolution thing and it is now perfect again! Phew...panic over Smile

He seemed to think the problem came about as a result of number two son plugging in his Flip video device therefore, changing the resolution???
