Where has 3G gone?

Until last week I had a really good Internet connection on my iPhone when at home via 3G. It was quicker than my wifi.

Then I suddenly found that my phone had dropped 3G and was using the slowest Internet route - don't know what it's called but it has an E symbol.

I can still get 3G in other areas nearby, but not in my house. Has anyone else had a problem with 3G recently?

Was it a temporary thing when you lost 3G at work?
And can anyone tell me why ive lost it??

Do you get 3G elsewhere? Ie. is it just at home you've lost it?

If it's just at home and you've tried rebooting the phone (just in case....)

then it's likely to be interference. Meaning something's getting in the way of the signal. I'd suggest you call your service provider but I fear that would be just an exercise in futility.

I'm on Vodafone and have used 3. Both swear blind I should be getting a 3G signal on my street but according to my phone I rarely do. Very very occasionally I get 1 bar.

Yes it is just at home. How do you reboot a phone? Switch it fully off?

Interestingly your point about interference made me realise that my losing 3G coincided with DS getting his first smartphone. I wonder if that's the problem? And if so, what can I do (short of binning the new phone Grin) ?

On the iphone, press the top button and hold it for a couple of seconds. Then on the screen, slide the slider. Once it's off, press the button to turn it back on.

I doubt your DS's phone is interfering with your signal. I was more thinking perhaps a neighbour parked a caravan in front of your house....or another mobile company built a new mast nearby. Big shiny crane built nearby. That sort of thing.

Thanks, will try that. I can't see anything new that could be obstructing a signal - weird Confused
And irritatingAngry

Sad I rebooted it. 3G appeared for a tantalising couple of minutes, then vanished again. Have rebooted again but no further sign of 3G. Is it worth getting an Apple store to have a look at my phone?

What's 3G signal like outside your house? Do you have any other phone with 3G on it?

The way to tell if it's your phone or not is to see if another phone on the same network in the same place can get a 3G signal when you cannot.

So for example if your son is using the same network and he's sitting pretty with a 3G signal whilst you don't then that could indicate an issue with your phone.

But if you both get the same then no.

Thanks, good point.
