Free alternative to excel for a mac?

I have a macbook and really only use it for internet and photo editing at the moment, so don't have a spreadsheet program on it.
I've always used excel on my desktop pc, but I could use with being able to see and edit an excel file while travelling with my macbook.

Any mac users that can recommend anything? Ideally I'd like something free as its only for a temporary period. A quick google suggests there are lots of programs that would probably fit the bill - but it would be good to know of ones that people have used and found easy to work (after being used to using excel spreadsheets). For reference the excel file is a very simple one - with just basic addition and subtraction formulas, so I don't need to convert over anything complex like charts and pivots.

Thanks in advance for any help...

We use Open Office / Neo Office. They are both the same program, Neo was originally the mac version & Open Office the Windows version, but they both work on Mac now.

It's not as sophisticated or "nice looking" as Excel, but is free. Certainly does everything you say you need.
