Hoping for some windows to iPad help.

I have always used windows and word/excel.

Was given an ipad2 for christmas by DH but am struggling, it will read/open word docs in emails but I can't save them or edit them on iPad.

The idea was that I wouldn't need to carry my laptop when I working away from home but currently I am having to swap between them and it is frustrating.

Any help would be appreciated as apps are mind boggling.

There's no version of Microsoft's Office for the iPad. There are word processors that you can get on the iPad, but they'll all have some issues working with Word Documents as Word Documents are a truly terrible format and not very portable.

Pages is one option, there are others out there in the app store if you go looking.

But, as said, each of them might still have their own troubles opening and editing Word Documents. A Word Document is just not a very portable format...

What is a more portable format?

ODF is a better document for portability, and on computers it's very well supported by numerous free word processing packages.

However on the iPad you're very limited by a very small number of word processors being available, so I don't know if there is an "ideal" format.

Have bought quick office pro DH and tho to doesn't do tables, most don't so will have to rejig my documents.
