Seeing photos on iMac from iPad connected to the same network

Can anyone tell me how to view photos that are on my iMac from my iPad. Is it possible without syncing them across (novice user)!

You can do it using iCloud's photo stream if you're on the latest versions of the software on both your Mac and your iPad. There will still be syncing happening behind the scenes but you won't have to actually connect your iPad and Mac for it to happen. The Mac can push photos out to iCloud and then the iPad will pull them down from there.

However there are limits, such as photos only being held for 30 days.

Other than that the easiest thing to do would be to sync them directly from your Mac using iTunes.
