Backlight on Laptop

When I plug the laptop into the mains the screen usually gets brighter IYKWIM. Today it isn't doing this. Is the backlight going to fail?

The adaptor is definitely plugged in and switched on and is charging the laptop.

Don't worry-have sorted it. The DSs have been messing with the brightness .
