Are PAYG wireless dongles for laptop any good?

Moving house this week, been trying to set up transfer of phone line, internet etc. Phoned BT and new house does not have phone line connected Confused. They said earliest they could come and sort it is 18th January Shock. Not happy with that but that is another story.

DH and I both need internet for work. Only way I can currently think of being able to use internet is to buy a PAYG dongle for laptop in the interim, will be useful for DH when he travels for business etc anyway.

Has anyone used them? Who provides the best? Do they eat up money - how long would 1GB last if we checked emails, popped online constantly for an hour or so each night, and downloaded small documents?

Any other thoughts most welcome - including if you know how to speed up BT.

Thankyou! Thanks

1GB should last a fair while for email and surfing. Downloading video will chew it up quickly. Generally though, the credit expires after a month anyway.

I couldn't say who is the best. A great deal depends on who has the best coverage in your area. I have an old Vodafone dongle and the signal isn't great where I live. I work from home and it's good enough for picking up email in emergencies, but I can't rely on it for serious work.

Look into whether there's a BT-Fon hotspot near where you are moving.

Also, can any of your mobiles be connected to a laptop and used for internet access? Check the charges of course?
