Memory Stick Ishoos

My SanDisk Memory Stick seems to be empty and unformatted- where has my work gone? I can't format it as the message says it will delete all files if I do, but why can't I see the files? I've tried it on different computers but it is the same on all of them.

I'm outwardly calm but feeling more than a little frazzled. Please help.

It's quite possibly broken, I've lost a few memory sticks in this way. Do you have the files backed up somewhere?

What Operating System is on your computer?

I thought formatting the stick deleted the files held on it.

Unfortunately these things have a limited life.

Try Recuva or photorec.

If I format it, it says it will delete all files, so I haven't, but it then says it needs formatting. Most things are backed up, it's just a pain I'll have to redo some stuff this week.
