My son had a similar problem with Norton. It wouldn't even allow his email. So he uninstalled it and went with a free antivirus. He uses AVGs free version and thinks it's ok. I use Avast free antivirus backed up with the free version of Threatfire from PC Tools. Neither of these cause my pc to run slowly, and they both update automatically. Avast tells you if a site, page or email is infected, and can either block or open in a "sandbox" to check if it is indeed dodgy. Threatfire works by analysing how different programs interact with your OS. I've been using both for about a year now, and according to both, and Superantispyware (free version), my pc is clean.

Just remembered, my SIL used Norton. For about a fortnight. DB phoned me asking for help as it had allowed adware through. She's now using Panda and Superantispyware and is happy with both. She has the paid for version of Panda, and the free SASW.

All are available from Filehippo.

usually in firewall settings il see if i can find a test site so i can find it for you Xmas Smile

if you open the norton application you should see a page with computer, network and web in boxes on the screen (if its norton 2010) click on settings to the right of network then click on network settings and you can either add ebay to the allowed list or scroll down and go to smart firewall, click on configure on the trust control and add it there. to test if its the firewall, go to advanced settings and turn the firewall off and try the site. if you can get on with the firewall off then its definitely the firewall thats blocking you. I work in technical support and had a few people ring recently who had a similar issue and it is almost always a firewall or secure site issue HTH

thank you so much, SSC! Smile

mine is 2012 so the page is different but there is a box labelled Safe Web; I clicked on that & it goes to a page which shows how many malicious sites it's identified & where you can enter a site to checl - I put ebay in there & it says it's ok Confused

ebay.co.uk
Summary
Norton Safe Web found no issues with this site.

haven't tried turning firewall off yet though, will have a go at that...
