I'm trying to download itunes .It says its installed , and it opens up but there is no shop available . I've tried clicking on help but it says help is unavailable because you are not connected to the internet - and sure enough I can't get online .
I'm online now as I have removed itunes. Anyone know what I have done wrong or how to fix it ?

Try installing it again but carefully follow these steps:

  1. Install iTunes but don't run it
  2. Open up your web browser, can you get onto the internet?
  3. Run iTunes
  4. Open up your web browser, can you get onto the internet?
  5. Shut down iTunes
  6. Open up your web browser, can you get onto the internet?

I'm trying to work out if iTunes just being installed is breaking your internet connection or if it happens when it's actually running.

I presume you're on a Windows PC?

How do you connect to the internet?

Yes - windows xp laptop .

Will try those steps now

Do you use a piece of anti-virus software called vipre?

Stilla · 05/12/2011 18:05

Failed at step 2 .
No to vipre .

Seems I hadn't totally removed itunes the first time it didn't install properly (I hadn't removed Bonjour) . I have now done this but don't think I can face trying to install it again tonight - incase it still doesn't work.

There is this suggestion about how similar issues can be resolved:
discussions.apple.com/message/12622179#12622179

But whether or not you want to try that depends on how confident you are and whether you have another machine with which you can access the internet if you have trouble.

There does appear to be some issue with iTunes and XP and/or some certain bits of anti-virus software. What AV software do you use?

Spyware Dr .

I'm not that confident with computers so I may have to ask someone to have a look .
Thanks for your help though .
