I can't remember the exact wording, if it said disk, file or drive, but it says this when i turn my laptop on. It says "to cancel the check press any button but it is recommended to let the check run". What does it all mean?

Something's not right with the disk...

If you do cancel and can boot then back up your important files ASAP. Your disk might be on its way out... This can just happen, for example if the computer crashed, and it can be fixable. But it can indicate a very serious problem is looming.

If you can't boot then presuming that your on windows then you need to run chkdsk. If my memory is working I think that that should happen automatically if you don't cancel that message. If not let me know and the process can be manually triggered from within windows.

Thanks Badgers Smile i knew you would save the day! I let it run and the message isn't coming up anymore so whatever it was must have fixed itself.

Glad to know that it sorted itself out. Sometimes the "phone book" that lists what is on th disk and where can get in a knot or the disk has to learn not use certain bad bits of itself and those sort of things can be fixable. So I wouldn't worry too much more about this. But do take this as a lesson and if you're not already backing up your files to somewhere else other than your computer start to do so now.
