Our other computer has been infected with something called Somoto. How can we get rid of it without having to pay?

Download and run the free version of MalwareBytes:

Is your anti-virus up to date? If not update it.

THanks will give it a go - had seen about it from what you said on a recent thread.

Also be aware that I don't believe that Somoto is a virus as such, its most common method of getting around is by people installing what claims to be one thing and then turns out to be another. So some people install what claim to be a toolbar for a browser, or a player to watch free movies or something to use file sharing sites and then Somoto piggy backs along with that.

So, especially on Windows machines, when you install software be aware that it may not be what it claims it is and it's often worth a quick Google to find out a bit more. Once you install it then the software can usually do anything that you can do, and on especially on older Windows machines (e.g. XP) that can be quite devastating.

So what does it want, somoto?

Nope - malwarebytes hasnt got rid - it is still hijacking the browser.

What browser are you using?

Katisha · 01/12/2011 20:56

Internet explorer.

DH has fiddled about with the registries and seems to have got it to stop coming up but he's not convinced it's gone altogether.
