Thinking of getting Dh one for christmas. He hates apple so iPad is out of the question, also I already have one.

Was wondering what else is really good? He has laptop so just for surfing/playing games etc?

Thanks

If you don't want an iPad then personally I believe the best on the market is the Asus Transformer Pad.

The reason I like it is because the screen is almost as good as the iPad's. It also comes with a docking station which increases the battery life and provides a keyboard which means it's useful as a data input device as well, where usually tablets are good for reading stuff only.

The downside is that it's not the best looking tablet and I do find the Android software a bit fiddly compared to the simplicity and drop dead good looks of the ipad.

Amazon link

To be fair you can get it without a dock. But then it's still not a big price difference and you are removing one of the most unique and key reasons for buying this particular tablet.

I've put Android onto my HP Touchpad and it's just nowhere near as polished as the ipad. It's not the interface as such. It's the apps. The problem I've found with Android is the apps are all very hit & miss.

Trying to get my homescreen to look pretty is a nightmare. It's a mishmash of icons with text labels disappearing, widgets which don't match or quite line up. They onscreen keyboard looks naff. And don't get me started on the Force Close issues.

The ipad just looks gorgeous all the time and it just works. Aside from "It's Apple", what is your DH's loathing for Apple products? I'm a geek and used to think the same but I've grown the appreciate them for the lovely fondleslabs they are.

niceguy2, I'm similar to you. I love Android, but it's so fiddly sometimes and so many apps crash. It doesn't seem very well integrated. Also, if you're competing with Apple, why sell at the same price? It seems madness.

I want need an iPad2 Grin

You could wait for the Amazon Fire Kindle tablet if the Transformer is too expensive, but I don't think it has a UK release date yet.

galaxy 10.1, easy! Better than the ipad, thinner, lighter, better camera and speakers....its a thing of beauty.

Galaxy with keyboard.
I love mine more than DDGrin

Another vote for the Asus epad. Several colleagues (including IT director) have one and think they're great. I love my iPad tho!
