Which freesat receiver?

We have had a Goodmans freesat box for three years and over the last few months it has been gradually losing channels (re-booting/tuning made no difference) and then last week it stopped working altogether and the box won't even switch on (with the remote or manually) although when it is plugged in you can hear it whirring. It is at the local repair shop at the moment to see if they can do anything with it. I have read on the internet that people have had problems at different times when their Goodmans freesat receiver has automatically updated and lost channels or stopped working altogether and that sounds like what may have happened. So firstly, if anyone has had this happen and managed to resolve it what did you have to do? And secondly, if it cannot be fixed we'll probably take the opportunity to replace it with a HD receiver but given the problems that people seem to have had with Goodmans can anyone recommend the box they have? (I've read good things about Humax so that's what I'm leaning towards at the moment)
Thanks

The humax is great, we have it, the recording stuff is really simple and the channels set themselves up on their own. Go for it.
