My iPlayer doesn't work anymore - Embedded Media Player Problems, Now What?

Clever computery types - iplayer works on my husbands computer but it doesn't work on my older but still OK one. I've done a bit of detective work and iPlayer seem to suggest that it is linked to the recent release of their Embedded Media Player. See here

So being as I use Google Chrome I think I'm automatically using Flash Player 11 which seems to be linked to the problem, so I've also done as they suggest regarding manually changing the Local Storage Settings through the EMP window on iplayer, and still no luck.

I've also deleted and disabled cookies through the Google Chrome tools menu. Still nadda.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about, and have any other ideas?

This page should tell you what version of Flash you have:
kb2.adobe.com/cps/155/tn_15507.html

I'm not quite sure why using Chrome would make you automatically get the latest version of Flash so it's well worth checking.

Are you on 11?

Right having checked the Flash version it is definitely 11. I only started using Chrome a few weeks ago and I haven't used iplayer since so I think that Flash 11 might be the problem.

How does one go about, and might it help, to either

  • uninstalling Flash 11, and re installing again or
  • removing Flash 11 and returning to an earlier Flash player?

Using that page linked to above what is your exact version?

What happens when you do use iPlayer? Do you get any errors?

Hi Badger - thanks for replying and trying to help!

It starts trying to down load the content and the 'circle' thing spins, then spins again, then spins again, and then it comes up with a message - something along the lines of 'this content is not working currently, please try again later' (on a different computer so can't check for sure currently). Don't even get the into adverts or anything.... No 'error messages' as such.

If you search under 'problems streaming' on their website there is something about enabling javascript, my computer isn't giving me this message but I'll look into this as well (as much as I can, being not very computer literate). They do seem to be acknowledging that there is a problem for some users now with this new embedded what not....

Any other suggestions?! Thanks

Oooh ooooh it's now working. I uninstalled 2 old versions of Javascript and that seems to have made all the difference - or they fixed the bug over the weekend and it just looks like what I did made a difference! All very mysterious....
