What does it actually do? I have just downloaded the iOS5 to iPad and iPhone and I'm feeling distinctly underwhelmed.

"Forgive me mr pedant. I don't go trawling though the serial numbers to make a point, so don't take it so seriously."

It's not pedantry, I was worried that someone with a 7 year old Mac might go out and buy Lion only to find out it was a complete waste of money.

There is a real and painful division in Macs that happened about 6 years ago, Software from one side of that line will have trouble running on hardware from the other and vice versa.

Worried? Really?
I very much doubt anyone would make any purchases on anything I say, alone.

"Worried? Really?"

Yes, and I apologise if you take is as pedantry.

I've had some bad advice from an Apple Store with regards to this issue and I'm therefore aware that the understanding of compatibility and Macs of a certain age is a bit of a problem.

Macs do seem to hang around a bit longer than PCs generally do and perhaps unusually for Operating Systems newer versions of OS X generally run pretty well on the older machines. So it did seem to be reasonably important to clarify that those of us who have Macs that go back 7 years are firmly shut out of the Lion party.

Again apologies if that's caused offence, none was meant.

Don't apologise, I'm a grouch.

I was sure my Macbook was that old, can't be. Heh, I call myself an IT professional too. Hmmm Grin

I meant to add my apology to my last message. Bad day, not your fault. I apologise for my rudeness.

Thanks for everyone's comments re my recent post about iCloud. Pleased to report I have installed Snow Leopard but not gone for Lion as need backup, not sync/iCloud stuff as I have no other Apple devices, I will be however investing in an external backup hard drive but probably with a Western Digital Passport rather than the full Apple product.

iCloud is a place that you can store many iPhone data, but it is also very useful if you want to recover deleted data on iPhone.
For example, if you accidentally deleted a photo on iPhone and you want to get it back, you can use your iCloud backups to do so.

And sometimes you will need tools like iPhone Data Recovery to help if you need help with that.
