My spreadsheet won't open!

I have an excel spreadsheet (2007) that is refusing to open. I can see it clearly in the preview pane in my documents panel but when I double click on it I get the message "there was a problem sending the command to the program". I haven't changed anything on my laptop (that I'm aware of) and all my other spreadsheets are happy still. I use Windows 2007.

Does anyone know why this is happening, is there a cure or shall I bid this spreadsheet a fond farewell and redo it? (It's not huge and I don't use it that often but it's annoying me now.)

Sounds ominous. The one thing you could try is to launch Excel first, then select open from the file menu and navigate to the spreadsheet that way. This will work if it has somehow lost its file association. If that doesn't work, do you know a Mac user with Numbers? See if that opens it.
