What happens when DH's O2 contract ends?

DH has an O2 tariff which still has unlimited internet. It was a 2 yr contract and ends in November 2011. When it ends, does he still get unlimited internet for the same cost but he is just out of contract or does it go onto a dodgy expensive tariff for the data if he doesn't renew it. He has an iphone 3GS and is waiting for the iphone 5 so isn't keen to jump into a new contact until the new handset is out. I tried asking in the O2 shop but they tried to tell me that no customers had unlimited data......I put them right and they then said that it counted as a legacy tariff and he would be able to keep the data allowance.

His contract should continue as it is but he's no longer tied to it. It will only change if he signs a new one. DH is in the same position, on an old unlimited data contract which he's clinging to with all his might!

o2 are talking nonsense, as usual :)

Thanks GML. Now to work out whether it is cheaper to buy the new phone off contract and keep this contact or to sign up to a new contact for the new phone. He won't go with 3 who always seem to have great deals including unlimited data as he says that their coverage is rubbish.
