Error loading operating system!!!

shit.

Updating and synching iPhone. Switched off kaspersky as otherwise it times out. All seems ok. Computer needs to shut down and restart. No problems there except now it won't restart and just had 'error losing operating system' message.

Any ideas?

Is it a laptop or desktop? Also what make is it and what version of Windows does it have?

Actually it's IBM I just noticed

It could be a failing hard drive,can you see the model number anywhere or do you know if it has a recovery partition.

Can you remember if an xp installation disc came with the computer when you bought it?

I'm sure we have somewhere! A bit afraid to mess with it. Will see if I can get someone out from DH's office IT dept.
