HELP! VISTA WILL NOT BOOT

MadAsASnakeNana · 02/05/2011 16:41

Can anyone out there help me. Have a Toshiba laptop and running Vista Home Premium. For the last couple of days it will not boot up, can do so using System Restore - but obviously this is not a permanent answer. Have recently had quite a few updates from Microsoft and have also installed a new Samsung printer within the last week or so, but these problems started well after printer was installed.

do you have the original software disk for your laptop? you could try inserting that and doing a repair.

MadAsASnakeNana · 02/05/2011 17:02

No, the laptop came with Vista already installed. Am seriously thinking of upgrading to Windows 7, but reluctant to spend the money until I know there are no underlying problems with laptop. Don't really know where to go from here.

Did you get any installation disks with the laptop?

MadAsASnakeNana · 02/05/2011 17:07

Yes, was advised to create discs by Toshiba, did this, think they take laptop back to factory settings.

I don't know what to advise if you haven't got the Vista disk. Maybe you'll have to take it to a computer repair place, or contact the shop you got it from.
Make sure you've backed up all your important stuff though as it will probably come back with nothing on it!

Can you describe in more detail what exactly happens when the laptop does not boot, along with any messages if any you get. At what stage does it fail?

Thanks everyone for all your help. Bit the bullet late last night and downloaded the Windows 7 upgrade for Vista. Everything works perfectly now (got a feeling I shouldn't have said that - tempting fate)! Thanks again.
