Duplicate photos on Windows 7/ Windows XP

Hi. A friend has several GB of family photos (many of her grandson while he was with his parents living in New York [due to his Dad's work forcing a move there for 18+ months]).

She knows there are duplicates and her first task is to get photos from their old XP system to the new Win 7 machine, but she asked me if I knew of anything which could find and if possible, automatically, remove the duplicates.

It doesn't really matter if this is for XP or Win 7, but if anyone knows of some s/w it would be a help. Some FREE application would be preferable as this is really, hopefully, going to be the only time it is needed!

Thanks for any pointers.

Picasa will show duplicate files, I'm not sure if it's the kind of thing you are after though as it's more of a photo management programme. I use it and love it, but I know others don't feel the same!

'show' as in identify or can it help delete dups, please ?

Will certainly give it a go. Found around 400 MB of files were there in triplicate (ie 1.2 GB of photos). There are about 6 GB in total but not sure what proportion are duplicates.

Just need a way to automate matching and provide a way to zzzzap the dups... so she won't spend the next 6 month deleting them manually :)

It shows the duplicates in a separate screen and allows you to delete them.

Thanks very much for both the suggestion and prompt response.
