Amazon kindle app for reading books as well as the free iBooks app, they have different books available at various prices, but there's a lot of free ones too, mostly old out of copyright stuff
shazam for identifying music that's playing near you
BBC iplayer app
Tune in radio - internet radio stations, you can record from them too
Find me tv, or sky+ app if you have sky ( you can set your sky box to record from anywhere with both these)
Around me can be good for finding the nearest bank, petrol station, pub cinema etc, though the amount of info can be patchy depending on where you are
BBC news app - means you can watch the videos which on the main site are flash, which the iPhone doesn't do
Train Times - national Rail enquiries app - really useful esp for the 'Next train home' feature
Weather Pro - really good forecasts & the premium version has radar forecasts, which was very good for seeing if the snow was going to pass us by or not - there's a subscription for that but it's only about £3-4 a year
Shelf BG is great for backgrounds that make your icons look like they are sitting on shelves of various types - you can down load 5 I think from the free version, and unlimited from the paid version
If you have a picasa web album, there's an app which makes it really easy to post pics from it on MN (or anywhere else of course!)
I use Dropbox a lot - you can have it on your Pc too & use it to look at your
docs on your phone
Labgency's ToDo map is a good visual task reminder program - different blocks of colour for each type of task, each block can be sized according to priority
I also have a few shopping apps - amazon, John Lewis m & s and an Ocado app, so I can wander round the kitchen, phone in hand, tapping in my order
Keeper is a really useful app which lets you store all your passwords and other info and you only have to remember one password to open the app. You can also back that info up online, though there's a sub for that - I don't bother because I also have it all on my iPad
As for games I about 60, mostly puzzle or word games - not much point me listing them unless you like that kind of game - if you do I'll give it a go....

erm....Angry Birds.

I like Toodledo for my to-do list since i can use the website, add a load in and it syncs with my phone. And vice versa.

Runkeeper if you ever go jogging.

Shazam

Torch - Honestly its one of those apps you don't think you need until you have it.

Facebook - ofc

CinexPlayer (if you want to watch xvid's movies on your phone)

Pulse News Reader

Hi have uploaded some of the apps mentioned - thanks for those and wanted to organise them into folders to create more space - managed to do this by double clicking on an app to make them all go wiggly and then move one on top of another. That is fine but there is one app on the next page that i want to move to a folder on the first page and i can't seem to drag it from one page to the next. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks

RustyBear · 15/04/2011 07:40

They can be a bit tricky sometimes, but you just drag it to the edge of the screen and hold it there till the page 'moves over' - don't let go until it does or the app will spring back to its original place.

I suggest if you've got lots of folders, you record what they are as some iPhones and iPads have a habit of losing their folders when you sync and scattering the icons over lots of screens- I'm trying to work out why it does it & I think it has something to do with if you have changed the apps on the phone. Since it did it last time, I've now taken a screen shot of my folder arrangement so I can rebuild quicker if it happens again - I have 155 apps on my iPad and 127 on my iPhone, so it takes a while.

To take a screen shot, press the sleep button at the top and the round Home button at the bottom at the same time, and a shot of the screen is automatically saved in your Camera roll - this is my current home screen
