Ok. Is it a keyboard attached via a cable, or on a laptop?

Have you noticed previously that some keys were sticking? Or no other problems?

usualsuspect · 07/04/2011 22:46

Does the laptop beep when you turn it on? This sounds odd, I know, but try shutting it down, taking the battery out of the laptop for a minute, putting back in and powering up.

Failing that, tell me what make and model of laptop. Have other keys been sticking?

lalalonglegs · 08/04/2011 10:11

Yes it does squeal but have just removed battery and keys still not working. It is sony vaio VGN-NR430E/L

just tried out the onscreen keyboard,
that is amazing.

RenniesFromHeaven · 08/04/2011 20:04

is it full of wine? that's what stops mine working.

(the one at work, anyway).

Snorbs · 08/04/2011 20:20

This place is selling a replacement UK keyboard for your laptop for about £40. I've never used that particular site before but that's a good price for a Sony spare.

When searching for replacement keyboards online you need to be careful because usually you'll find they're US layout (no £ sign and some of the other symbols are moved around) which can be annoying.

Swapping laptop keyboards can be a bit fiddly but it's not impossible.

lalalonglegs · 08/04/2011 20:46

not wine, more likely to be squash since my children discovered cbeebies website...

mine is US keyboard as i bought in States. not sure it is keyboard itself as some keys still work and, some of those that don't, do when i used them with CTRL (eg; c when i was copying). i don't know if that makes it worth replacing k/b or not Confused

keys stuck down with bogeys then...

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 08/04/2011 21:58

If you're comfortable with taking it apart and blasting with canned air, here's a link to some instructions. Since some keys work and some don't, it's likely just dirty.

You could also power it off and run a cotton bud across it, if you don't to dismantle it.
