Moving itunes from PC to mac? How is it so difficult?

Can anyone help with this? DH and I have had each of our itunes accounts on our PC for several years. We've recently got a mac book pro and want to get rid of the PC. Have managed to transfer all files across by networking the 2 machines, but although the itunes library looks to have migrated, the song files are not accessible.

Any ideas? Even DH who is in love with the mac book has come close to throwing it this evening Grin

Thanks!

What do you mean the songs are "not accessible".

Probably the easiest way of moving the music is just to drag it from the iTunes on the PC onto an external disk drive and then to connect the external disk drive on the Mac and drag them back into iTunes.

Or do a similar thing with network shares.

What you can't simply do is to day the iTunes folder itself from the disk drive of one machine to another. Depending on how iTunes is set up on each machine that might very well not actually copy the music but just the references to where on your computer the music is.

Thanks Badger. So the library looks like it is all there but the songs won't play when clicked on. Initially they all had exclamation marks next to them, which have gone with some faffing about but the songs still won't play. May have to buy an external hard drive to do the job if we can't find another way.

Do you know if what you did was to copy the iTunes folder from one computer to another?

If you managed to network the machines before then just do that again. But on the PC just open up iTunes and drag the music out of iTunes itself (not the iTunes folder in Windows Explorer) to some networked location that the Mac can see.

Then go to the Mac and drag the music files into iTunes.

Thanks again Badger, will try that tomorrow.

Fabulous, thank you, all done. We were trying to do something complicated with codes, but turns out drag and drop was all that was needed Grin
