I have no idea how to use this thing. Lovely MIL gave it to me as she upgraded but I'm used to our old Sony thing with windows etc.

One thing I am desperately trying to do is work out how to copy photos from online and save them to the laptop.

Was easy before I just right clicked, copied and saved, so can you do something similar with Mac?

TIA Smile

where online? any image in particular?

eg copying form google images, do exactly the same - right click on the image and then scroll to "save image as" (or copy image, I suppose if you are C&P into something)

Yes you should be able to the same thing in a couple of ways using Safari (the usual Mac OS X Web Browser)

  1. If you right click on a photo (hold CTRL and click if you've not set up a right mouse button) there should be a Download option which will save it to the desktop.

  2. You also might be able to select the image and drag it to your desktop or finder.

  3. There might also be an option when you right click on an image to "Add Image to iPhoto Library" which will download the image and add it to iPhoto.

Some web sites will however do funny things to stop right clicks working, but on the whole this should work.

Haven't got right click set up so tried the CTRL hold and the only options I get are...

Are you right clicking on the image?

I actually suspect that this is Facebook playing silly so and so's. Are you looking at the photo surrouned by the "new" black box around it that has arrows on the left and right, a little close cross in the top right.

If so that does do funny things to the right click.

Is there a "Download" link on the left hand side of the page underneath the photo itself? I get a list of four links there now "Tag this Photo", "Share", "Download" and "Report this Photo".

The Download should do the job.

Oh lord I'm so stupid, I have never even noticed the Download bit Blush

Thank you!!

"Oh lord I'm so stupid, I have never even noticed the Download bit"

It's kind of new, it never used to work that way. They used to allow right clicks and then save image (and they still do if you can find your way to the old way to view photos, it's still there).

So this isn't anything to do with being on a Mac but Facebook trying to be "helpful"...

MmeLindt · 22/03/2011 11:48

Oh, it is all too complicated.

I would suggest you give your MacBook to me and I will give you my old Sony thing with windows, since you are so used to it.

Alternatively, could your MIL adopt me?

NotShortImFunSized · 22/03/2011 12:23

Grin @ MmeLindt.

I'd happily have kept the Sony if ds hadn't pulled off 17 keys. Dp helpfully put 4 back on, all in the wrong places. Makes for interesting reading Wink

Thanks Badgers, Fb and their helpfulness know no bounds...
