Ipad question - password for connecting

So DH came home yesterday with his new toy and muggins here has been spending the last couple of hours trying to get it to connect...
So - it will connect with security down on my (wireless) Netgear modem. However I obviously can't leave security disabled so the problem is, what password does he use on the Ipad (WPA-PSK security, I have added his Mac Address manually). Is it the WPA Security Encription Network Key??? Or is it the p/w used to log on to Netgear - the one that has default settings to username - admin and password - password?

Whoops - found it - it's the encryption key. Of course DH had already tried it and said it didn't work, but when I tried it....takes a woman
