Hello,

after the success of my last formula thread I thought I'd try you lovely ladies once again.

I have an attendance spreadsheet on the go with ticks for yes and crosses for no's.

Is there a formula which will add up the ticks?

Better to use a '1' for yes and a '0' for no. then you just have to add up the whole column.
If you really want to do tick and cross and add up the ticks you will need to use the formula =countif(XXX,"YYY"). Where XXX is a range (the column where the ticks and crosses are) and "YYY" is the symbol you use for a tick.

But it is better spreadsheet practice to use 1/0. .

hmmm yes that would make sense! What do you use for a maybe?

You could maybe use '0.5' for a maybe. But otherwise I would set up a separate column for 'undecided' and put a '1' in the box if they are a maybe.
