Laptop or net book?

Any advice. We have a large expensive PC which DH uses for graphics stuff so we use a laptop essentially for net stuff and storing photos. It's about to pack up I think so wondering if should buy a new one or given that we mainly use it for net surfing, just get a net book? Or are they too limited?

Of course the 3rd option is an i pad. I love them but not sure if I would get all the use out of them but their portability and battery life is good and would love to be able to sit in front of TV and also mumsnet! Of course could do that with a netbook or laptop too.

Any advice suggestions?

First make sure you backup HD from current laptop.

Personally I'd go for a laptop (but I don't use them 'on my lap' anyway, tend to use laptops / desktops at a desk and plug in standard size keyboard and mouse, so far from usual / expected type of user)

Depends a bit on what you want to do, and what TV you have, as some laptops have HDMI output to feet a modern flat-screen, so could be used to play video off the net, perhaps.

(A Compaq I bought for under 250 quid in Feb 2010, had HDMI, though I've given it to my sister and don't have a flat screen TV here, so had not tested that facility.)

What will you do with photos etc, if you have an iPad (and no USB, at least that has been the case, although Apple came out with some adaptor that allowed for SD and USB, but perhaps at some high cost... so wait for next iPad perhaps, or go for a netbook, but ensure you have ways to get photos saved, perhaps to online backup facility).

I love my net book, I like the size of it, can lie in bed holding it with one hand, yet it is big enough to do proper work on if needed ( I used it for two weeks to work from home when we had bad snow!)It doesn't have a disc drive but only miss that occasionally

I've heard good things about the iPad, but not tried one. They are quite a bit more expensive though
