Sky + box not responding - Help please

I am stuck on BBC1.

I noticed last night when I turned the TV off that the Sky+ box wouldn't turn off. But it was late so I left it and went to bed. This morning I have discovered that it won't respond to anything - I can't bring up the TV Guide, change channels or turn it off. The only things working are the volume control and mute button (but they affect the TV itself, not the Sky+ box).

I have changed the batteries in the remote and even tried the buttons on the box itself. Nothing happens other than the little red light flashing when I press something on the remote. So, it seems to me that the remote is talking to the box but the box itself is frozen somehow.

I have considered turning the power off to reset the box but fear that when I turn it back on I will have no television at all.

Can anyone help me please?

Turn it off at the wall, leave for a minute or so, turn it back on again. Ours used to stick too, and we were advised to do this by the Sky engineer. It worked for us.

I'll pluck up my courage and try that then. If it doesn't work I guess I can try and switch the TV to its internal Freeview thingy so I can at least change to the news channel.
