Is there any way that you can see/check what somebody has been looking at whilst on private browsing on a mac.

TIA

Thank you

Do you know what terminal is or where I would find it?

Choose Applications then Utilities. It should be in there.

dalek · 11/02/2011 23:25

Sorry - still can't find it. I'm afraid I.m not very technical. Which tab would I need to start at?

Thanks for your help.

Go to the Start menu (the little apple logo at the top left) then choose Applications, then choose Utilities. You should see Terminal in that list. Click on that and you'll get a window pop up where you type (and you need to get it exactly as it appears here):

dscacheutil -cachedump -entries Host

I can't guarantee it will work I've never tried it nor do I have a Mac here to try it on. Also, the dscacheutil command isn't available in all versions of OSX so it may not work.

What are you looking for in particular? There may be an easier way of finding out if a given site has been visited.

ChippedChinaTeaCup · 12/02/2011 10:29

right I'\ve tried that and it works

I got a list of entries like this with all the different sites I've been on

Host 02/12/11 10:40:25 02/12/11 10:25:25 0 4 900

Key: h_name:hints.macworld.com ipv4:1 ipv6:1
Key: h_name:hints.macworld.com ipv6:1
Key: h_name:hints.macworld.com ipv4:1

however, I've never used private browsing so not sure if it would show that.

Thanks everyone
