My microphone icon has disappeared from desktop so I can't adjust volume?

Just that really, it used (until a couple of days ago) to appear in bottom right hand corner but it's not there now, even when I expand to show hidden icons. The sound of DS playing games on the Lego site is driving me crazy so please help!! TIA.

If you right-click on the taskbar,click properties in the dialogue box that comes up,then notification area ,system icons should be there,tick the volume box,then apply,and hopefully it should be back.
