How do I delete the history of documents recently opened on my computer

Had a moment of madness where I opened up some of DH's documents on our shared computer (I know, I know). I'm not the snooping kind usually - never done this before - don't know why I did it - marriage is shit at the moment so maybe I was trying to find some answers - etc, etc

Anyway, on the bottom left hand side of my computer screen there is a microsoft icon. If I click it it has various lists of things on the computer, including "recent items" with an arrow by the side of it. If I click on the arrow, all the items that I opened which I shouldn't have are revealed in all their shameful glory. I've tried rebooting and they're still there.

Is there any way of deleting the history of documents recently opened on a computer? Don't think it's going to help our marriage any if DH finds out I've been snooping...

Not sure about deleting, but I think that list has a limit on how many things it can contain...so open a few more docs that are less incriminating and I think you'll push them off the list.

I'm not computer genius, but what I do is search a lot more things so what is most recent now is pushed down into oblivion, and it's unlikely he will ever notice.

Go on to youtube and click on a lot of mundane stuff.

you need to look at documents you have worked on... or work on some (eg birthday gifts list for you, gifts list for him, etc [OK, optimistic, but means he is all the less likely to start questioning you, and if his docs are listed further down, then without a bit more effort he won't check when they were last looked and, or remember when he worked on any of them so you may get away with it.

There may well be methods to wipe the history clean, but that looks far more suspicious in my view.

Thanks!

if you right click on each one doesn't it give you the option to delete?

louvert · 10/02/2011 00:11

I'm in bed and so working from memory so may be totally wrong. Try going to the thing that says Recent Documents and then right clicking. Does that give an option to clear them?

DuelingFanjo · 10/02/2011 00:12

in fact, if you right click on 'recent items' there should be an option to clear the whole list.

DuelingFanjo · 10/02/2011 00:13

snap!
