Help - images/avatars getting transposed on eBay and other sites

This is driving me to distraction and I haven't a clue what is causing it.

In eBay I see something I like in the list/gallery view, go to the actual listing and it shows a different image. It seems to be the list/gallery view that is showing the wrong images.
Often in the list/gallery one image will be shown against various listings.

On another site I use a lot the avatars get transposed, as do images of projects.
On this particular site I also have a problem where the forum posts do not update, or I can read threads but then they are not shown as being read.

I have tried clearing the cache, clearing cookies and refreshing/reloading all to no avail.

The problem doesn't seem to be browser related as it happens on Opera, Firefox and Google Chrome.

It's driving me mad. I've tried googling for solutions but can't find reference to anything similar.

Can anyone throw any light on it for me? Please.

What Operating System are you on? (Windows? If so which version? Apple Mac?)

If you're on a PC it might well be worth downloading a malware checker such as MalwareBytes to check that there's nothing dubious on your machine.

I'm on a laptop using Windows 7.
I have Malware Bytes and ran it yesterday but it didn't find anything amiss. I also use Spybot, Adaware, Spyware Blaster and AVG.

I thought it might be a caching problem but have no idea how to sort it.
