i love functionality of the iphone, but don't want a contract phone. they are hugely expensive on pay as you go. if i get an ipod touch, i can still get and use the most popular apps, no?
what would i miss out on by getting the ipod touch instead of the iphone?

yes you can use the apps exactly the same, but of course you cannot make calls or use the 3G elements so only wifi connectivity.

There's been a few threads on the Touch vs. the iPhone but in brief the differences are...

The camera in the Touch is rubbish, much worse than the camera in the very first iPhone yet alone the latest model.

The iPhone's screen is slightly better, it can be seen from more angles.

The Touch doesn't have a GPS or a compass, a few apps use them so they won't work properly or at all.

The iPhone is slightly more powerful, but this may not make much of a difference as it's being a phone at the same time as whatever else you're up to.

thanks both. i main want it for farting around with apps, so might go for it. the iphone is over 500 quid on PAYG, which i'm struggling to justify.
