My internet has been slow for a few days (possibly since I downloaded adobe reader? - now removed I think). But now it barely manages to load a page then it gets stuck, or can't find it. then it works for a tiny bit, then it doesn't etc.

DPs macbook is working fine (I'm posting from it now), as is my iPhone.

I've tried switching on and off Hmm (macbook and router/time machine), clearing the cache, and using different browsers, but it's the same in safari, chrome and firefox.

Does it sound like a bug kind of thing?

Aaaaaagh! I NEEEEED my computer to WORK godammit!

Any advice most gratefully received.

Try repairing the permissions, it's an option in the Disk Utilities tool which you'll find in Applications/Utilities in finder.

So do I take it you're connecting wirelessly? Have a look in DP's MacBook's network settings (Apple menu, System Preferences, Network) and see of there is any difference. Look at all of it especially the bit to do with DNS. The only thing that should be different is the IP address of your MacBook, and even that should be virtually the same as DP's. ANy suspicious differences, please report back.

thanks for this. Yes, I'm connecting wirelessly.

Internet is back on for now but it was off again earlier.

Got a piece of work that needs finishing ASAP so I'll probably do your suggestions tomorrow now.

When you can get onto the wireless network do you see the same signal strength as your DPs Macbook?

Also are they both the same type? Is one a metal MacBook Pro?

Different machines can differ at how well they can pick up wireless signals, the metal MacBook Pro in particular doesn't pick it up as well as other plastic laptops.

If there's occasional interference on the frequency used by your WiFi then it might be that the signal is still just strong enough for one machine but the other other struggles and occasionally cuts out.
