How do I connect surround sound system to a laptop...

...with only one input for headphones?

The surround sound has a left and right jack and I can obviously only plug one in at a time !

Am I missing a splitter from the headphone socket or something?

please help!

Laptop will have a 3.5mm stereo socket, mot likely. When you mention left and right jack, what exact inputs do you have ?

I'm used to seeing 2x RCA sockets and you can get low cost adaptors going from 3.5mm male to 2x RCA plugs (male) to go into the amp.

the inputs fit into the headphone socket of the laptop (not sure what that type of plug is called but its the smaller kind).

The input plugs are marked front and back.

They are from a surround sound system.

It's this one.... reviews.cnet.com/pc-speakers/creative-labs-creative-pc/1707-3179_7-4843275.html

Thanks so much !

Perhaps best for you to pop into Poundland and get an adaptor (aimed at iPhone users) which goes from a 3.5mm plug to 2x 3.5mm sockets, so you can plug both 'front' and 'back' plugs in to the adaptor.

Have fun !

ooh... shall print that out and go to poundland. thank you.

You're not going to get "proper" surround sound from that.

That speaker set is meant to work with soundcards/laptops that do have two proper outputs.

So you could just plug your headphone output into one of those and get either the front or back speakers working.

Agreed, but then again with around 3 W per speaker, one may as well have 4 of them playing rather than just 2 !
