My laptop died totally, and although ive installed iTunes on the new one, if I sync I'm going to lose the contents of my phone. Any way I can retrieve the contents to the laptop before I sync?

Whats wrong with the laptop? Is the disk toast?

What do you need off your iphone? The music? Photos?

Any apps & music you have bought from Apple can be reinstalled easily as they will have kept a record. It's the one's you didn't buy which will be the issue.

Google - I think there are 'things' that can take the music off your phone to your new computer.

Niceguy - you can redownload apps you've bought from iTunes, but not music - they specifically say that you need to back up your music because you can't get it again for free - though some people have apparently successfully appealed to them.

There's a bit in Which? this month which says that some insurers will cover the cost of replacing music on a lost phone or MP3 player, but I'm not sure if they'd cover music on a dead laptop - might be worth a try though.
