I cannot get to grips with my blog.
It doesn't look how I wish it did.
I'm on wordpress and other people's look so professional :(
Granted, this blog is for family but still.
Basically mine looks very amateur and crap!

Any ideas?
Any better free blog space?
TIA

Are you on wordpress.com or is it self-hosted?

would self hosting be better?

With self-hosting you would have far more control over the design, but you would need to pay for hosting, and you'd have to feel comfortable about installing WP. That's actually not difficult, most hosting services offer something called Fantastico which installs WP (and numerous other programmes) automatically.

On the other hand, if you want to stick with your existing blog, you will be limited by the available themes, and they aren't great. The only way around that would be to pay to upgrade so that you could use custom CSS. If you don't want to do that, it might be worth having a look at Blogger. From what I can remember - haven't used it for years - it didn't have as many features as WP, but it was much easier to create a good looking theme.

I'm using the default "Twenty Ten" theme in WP and it isn't so bad once you delve in and start customising the settings and widgets.

Ok it's never going to look professional, but the only people reading it are family so I'm not that worried - it's the content that is more important then ultimately a perfect look.

Different web browsers and different computers render things in slightly different ways - therefore its quite possible that the readers will see the blog looking differently to you anyway.

I'm self-hosted so I do have a bit more flexibility - and yes like most hosting providers my host do have auto installers.
