Help reset my wireless router and now can't get online

Help couldn't remember the password for my netgear and found out that I'd have to factory reset it. So I did

basically the laptop is rebering old password and won't connect. Have I fucked it up?

Anyone?

It may be possible to change your network connection to a factory default password or an unsecured connection if it's unsecured by default. Do you have a manual that may give you the default settings?

If not you probably have to connect to the router with a network cable log in to and set the password to whatever you need. If you changed the SSID (network name), you may need to restore that as well.

Tried turning off the security bit on the laptop but just says the secruity details don't match. Do you think a cable is the only way?

You can probably find the manual online somewhere. If you installed software that came with it, the manual may even be on your laptop? I'd just use a cable to login and sort it out, but I have plenty of cables. You probably got one with the netgear?

I'll second the cable as being the way to check and fix this, you need to see the security settings that the router has and check that against your laptops wireless settings.

If it's a netgear and you have reset it it will have a default IP address of 192.168.1.1, and to get into it you need username "admin" and password "password".

So connect to it using an ethernet cable and launch your web browser. Type in "192.168.1.1" into the address bar and you will see a web page produced by your router. You will need to log in with the username and password as above, and then you will be able to put in your settings. To get on line you need to put in two things- your ADSL username (or login or ID it may be called) and password. These will have been given to you by your ISP and will look like [email protected] or something like that and the password may be on you chose or may have been sent by them. Once you've done that you can get on line, and as for the name of the wireless network and the security on it- that's up to you; you can choose anything you like.

I would have thought it depended on the model from Netgear.

Checking the router IP another way may be needed if 192.168.1.1 doesn't work.

Ok so have defo reset it as it says

the settings saved on this pc for the network do not match the requiements of the network

So the question is once I have plugged the cable in how do I set up a new ID?

Same as what prism said you can normally find the router ip underneath the router.

"So the question is once I have plugged the cable in how do I set up a new ID?"- not quite sure what you mean by this but if you mean creating a new wireless network, you'll see it in a menu of things you can do with the router on the left of its control page. But forget about that for now- concentrate on getting the blighter on the internet, which you do following my instructions above, with a cable. Don't try to do it without one.

Did you tried everything possible?? Did you reset your router? I can help you to fix the problem but only with more details. Can you tell me what did you do? I can suggest you to take a look on www.router-reset.com/default-ip-address-list/Belkin they can tell you what is your problem and how can you fix the problem. More than that will be able to change the settings of the router the way you want, set password and features.
