It's my birthday on Friday and I really fancy an Iphone 4, however I'm not sure I would use it enough for phone calls/texting etc, to justify the monthly cost of a contract.

So my question is, does an ipod touch 4 give you all the same features without the monthly cost, or is there more to the Iphone 4 that makes it worth spending the extra money?

I am very confused :o

There are a few differences when comparing the iPhone 4 to the iPod Touch.

Firstly the screen on the iPhone 4 is better than the iPod Touch, so things look a bit sharper on the iPhone.

The next big difference is the camera, the camera they've put into the Touch is rubbish when compared to the one in the iPhone 4 (0.7 MP with no zoom on the Touch compare to 5MP with digital zoom on the iPhone). In fact the camera is worse than the one they put in the very first iPhone.

Probably the final thing that you would notice is that the iPod Touch doesn't have a GPS receiver and compass, the iPhone does.

The insides are also different, though that's harder to notice. The iPhone is slightly more powerful than the Touch. However given as how it's got to actually deal with being a phone as well as being doing all the things the Touch does how much of a difference you would notice from that is very debatable.

If you're likely to want to surf the web alot the you may be best off with the i phone as you need to be in a wifi area for the i pod to connect to the internet. Personally I like the weight and feel of the i pod much more and find it easier to hold whe using the internet. The i phone seems quite chunky and heavy to me.

Thanks connortraceptive. Maybe I'll go to the apple shop and test them both out first.

I have just got an iPhone 4, and in all honesty, and with hindsight, my Ipod touch was fine. I don't do much more on it, but pay an extra tenner a month.

I wish I'd waited for the second generation iPad, would have been much better for MNing on!
