Should i buy a horribly expensive Dell replacement battery for my laptop, or a much cheaper, but possibly useless compatible one?

Compatible.

Both will only do 500 full discharges and then die. It just depends whether your laptop will last that long. :)

High capacity ones will last longer. Where are you getting it from. Some are better than others.

That's what i figured...wide range of prices and no way of judging quality...

I was thinking of getting one of these

Although this one is much cheaper but something about the website makes me think they may not be around long enough to honour a 3 year guarantee.

what do you think.

The high capacity ones have a sticky out bit that looks ugly. is it worth it?

Yeah I'd go for the first one. Although you can always buy through Amazon - they aren't likely to go bust and then if it breaks within a reasonable time (a year) you can return it to them as faulty and get a refund/replacement.

Thanks for the advice and hand holding. Ordered now, I hope it works.
