I love Firefox, so why should I bother with Google Chrome?

Is it worth switching allegiance?

Have been thinking about this recently.

Niceguy2 · 03/01/2011 13:30

Erm....it's faster? It's supposed to be more stable and more secure?

To be honest I've got IE, Firefox & Chrome installed. 99% of the time I use firefox. I've gotten used to it and the xmarks addon is the killer app which means I will put up with little foibles like FF crashes or the fact each release seems slightly slower as they cram more crap into it.

If Chrome is faster then that would sway me. I think I will download it anyway and simply try it out...

Okay, I've just installed Chrome and it's so much faster than my Firefox (which I love). It also seamlessly imported all my FF bookmarks and tabs and saved passwords/logins. So far I am convinced and am switching :-)

The way Chrome handles streaming video is completely different from Firefox so keep the other one handy in case you need it. This will eventually be sorted out when HTML5 becomes a standard instead of an aspiration, but for the time being there will not be quite such a thing as a browser that can handle absolutely anything.

In fact what am I saying? There never will be anyway. Industry standards- so many to choose from... Smile

I've found Chrome faster and easier to use. I've not used the latest Firefox though. A lot of the time it just depends what you are used to.

MmeLindt · 03/01/2011 22:02

Does Chrome have add ons? I am reluctant to give up my spell check add on.

thisisyesterday · 03/01/2011 22:03

i don't find Chrome any faster than Firefox

dp persuaded me to give it a try and the only reason i haven't swapped back to firefox is that i can't be arsed to transfer my bookmarks!

firefox forever! yay

I was a long term firefox user to the point that it would be the first thing i downloaded on a new PC Smile

I stuck with it through the crashes and the memory leaks but eventually I just had to move to Chrome. Why?, because Chrome is just so much faster out of the box and I was tired with all the waiting. Also Mozilla's development cycle seemed to run out of steam where Chrome was in 5th gear.

There are 1000s of addons for it too.

Niceguy2, xmarks was my killer firefox addon too but I am currently using it in Chrome Smile

I even tried IE9 for a bit but waaaay to buggy.

So Chrome is my primary browser but I still have firefox installed (mainly to check how my website looks across different browsers)

Chrome is faster and easier, plus when a web site freezes or crashes your browser it only crashes that tab. Unlike firefox which will crash the whole window.

The only add-on I miss from firefox is the web dev tool, so I use firefox for that sometimes.

cornshilk007 · 04/01/2011 00:52

is defo faster - have just started to use it though still forget and use mozilla
also it spell checks on here - firefox didn't do that
