i phone - 16 or 32 gb?

Not very techie but decided to go for one of these since I need to change phone. How will I know if 16gb is enough for me?

The rule of thumb I follow is acquire as many gigs as you can afford. You may not need 32 now, but you may need it in the future!

What are you going to do with it? If you're going to put videos on it then you'll need the 32GB. If it's just for music the 16GB should be fine.

cant see myself putting videos on it but I may consider it if I have option. Is there any other reason eg more apps or do they both have same capacity in terms of available apps?

We had this debate recently as DD & a few friends got theirs a couple of months ago and DH just got his on upgrade.
DD & co. concluded that if using it for music/videos then the battery will be on constant charge so DH settled for 16gb. They both have 80gb ipods for music etc.

App availability is the same, it's purely about memory capacity.

I'd go for the 32gb, speaking as someone who has a smaller capacity and has filled it up already somehow!

I have a 32gb and it already over half full. Mainly music but photos and apps too. I still have a lot of music to load onto it.

Bluebump, how do you use yours - do you do videos etc; if not I'm curious about how easily it can be filled up. This is all new to me as I've never even owned an ipod!

What the difference in cost will be depends almost entirely on which mobile contract you go for, because certainly in the past the lowest capacity iPhone was 'free' with fees being charged for the higher capacity models.

I did a bit of searching (you may find better deals, or cashback deals however, so far from exhaustive). Most 16 GB phones cost 99 (+35 per month for 24 months)

Most 32GB cost from 149 to 220 (plus 35 per month). Three seems to offer 30 pound/month tariffs saving a minimum of 120 pounds and while the others say "unlimited" I think for most networks that equates to 100/day (3000 a month) so the 5000/month limit from Three is likely to be more generous.

Agree with Tee. Always get the most memory you can afford, in order to future-proof yourself as much as possible. You may surprise yourself with your usage and find that you do things with it that it never occurred to you to do before.

Also get extra chargers, it's very power-hungry. I have a mains charger, a USB cable by the computer, and a car charger that lives in the car. The iPhone needs a drink every day, and needs to beconstantly on charge if you use it as a satnav.

BTW I don't know whether it's still available, but Tesco had a tariff where you paid more up front but were locked in for only 12m, and it averaged out as the same monthly cost as a 24m lock-in.

I'll look at those websites Networkguy. I'll also look at possibility of buying phone outright and then using a monthly contract sim card.

Prettycandles I'm thinking of 32GB - might as well take advantage of the possibilites!

I have to say that I dont think the price difference is worth it.

I have the 16GB and its fine for me. I recently went on a long business trip with all my music & enough videos for 2 x 8 hour flights.

I guess if money isn't a big deal then 32gb is better obviously but I wouldn't worry if you can only get the 16gb

16 GB 35.00 x 12 month + 229 (649 total cost) gives 750 min/month + "unlimited" texts

32 GB 20.00 x 12 month + 429 (669 total cost) gives 250 min/month + "unlimited" texts

32 GB 35.00 x 12 month + 299 (589 total cost) gives 750 min/month + "unlimited" texts

sorry - last 589 should be 719 !

So on Tesco 12 month 20 quid contract, difference is 70 quid, but the Tesco 16GB deal is 190 quid more costly than paying Three 189 + 30/month for 2 years for a 32GB iPhone 4.

warning for maggiethecat - I have no iPhone and will possibly go for an Android phone but see all of these as very expensive at present.

So who is the service provider for Tesco?

Not sure why you ask, maggie, because if you do a deal with Tesco you are locked in for a year at the minimum. Or is it that you wonder because you get good coverage in your area from X but Y is poor ? (where X and Y could be any of the big 5 names)

Tesco = O2, I think.

I ask bcos of coverage - have heard that Three reception can be pretty bad. Also, dh is on O2.

Have had a look around and the Tesco/O2 deal - 12 months at £35/mth for 750 mins, unlimited texts with a £299 cost for a 32GB phone - seems like a good deal. I mentioned this to O2 directly when trying to see what was the best deal they could offer and they said that Tesco/O2 customers did not have priority coverage compared with straight O2 users. She could not really explain what that meant and I presume it's a spiel to get customers to stay.

Does anyone have experience of Tesco mobile and the reception/ service etc?
