I can't be the only one.

Do you use custom content? If so, do you have any favourite sites?

All About Style has some lovely historical sims clothes.

Otherwise it's usually ModTheSims and TheSimsResource for me.

simcredible is probably my favourite site and I also really like around the sims

I sometimes miss sims 1 though, I used to make custom content and was really involved in the community. It all kinda went up in a big bang of arguments and accusations =(

BookcaseFullofBooks · 02/01/2011 13:02

I like it too. Haven't had much chance to play it lately with DD arriving though.

What do you concentrate on with your sims? Most of mine have loads of babies.

Sassyfrassy · 02/01/2011 13:05

I tend to not be so keen on babies. I like developing relationships and careers. I quite like playing as interior designer and have my sim go around sorting other sims houses out.

BertieBottlesOfMulledWine · 02/01/2011 13:10

Sims 2 fan here :) My computer is so ancient it can't run the Sims 3, but I'm still not sure I want to move on to the Sims 3 yet anyway... I am a bit tempted by Late Night and Ambitions though.

I prefer how Sims 2 seems more customisable. My favourite thing to do is to build up communities, or challenges like the legacy challenge or apocalypse challenge (I think both of these have been ported to Sims 3 now as well if you google). I set up an entire neighbourhood for the apocalypse challenge and so far have failed 3 times Grin

I post/lurk on SIMBology, they don't have a very active Sims 3 section though.

Mum72 · 02/01/2011 13:16

I dont seem to ever achieve as uch in sims3 as I did in Sims2. Think I prefer sims2 but there were always lots of glitches.

Sims 3 I seem to play for ever but never progress with my career or anything.

Saying that my DD has Sims3 on the PS3 for Xmas. Our 2 DDs have been on it as much as I allow. Am yet to have a go but it looks quite good and alot better than the old Sims we had on our very old Xbox years ago.

KalokiMallow · 02/01/2011 15:14

I tend to buy the birthday cake and skip them being babies. In the Sims they are annoying more than anything.

I actually prefer Sims 3, didn't like it at first, but now I much prefer it to Sims 2&1.

I tend to spend ages building up communities, which is much better with Sims 3, I love the fact they all age at the same time. Love building up intricate family trees.

Will look up the apocalypse challenge.

The poverty challenge is quite good with Sims 3 too.

Which add on packs do you have? I've only got Ambitions.

I use the "testingcheatsenabled on" cheat and if you press shift and click on the postbox it gives you options and you can drag their needs up.

KalokiMallow · 02/01/2011 15:22

I've got Ambitions, World Adventures and Late Night. Not keen on WA, but love LN. Can't be arsed with the item packs, lot of money when there is so much fantastic free custom content out there.

OP posts:
Sassyfrassy · 02/01/2011 15:25

I like late night content but I really don't like the new neighbourhood.

KalokiMallow · 02/01/2011 15:27

No, it's a bit shit isn't it? I'm playing around with Create a World to make a new LN neighbourhood. If I have any luck I'll let you know.

There just isn't enough housing in the new one, and there are barely any starter homes. So trying to make something with a better range.

NineLadiesDancingThroughLife · 02/01/2011 15:29

I like it, but don't have much time to waste dedicate play on it anymore.

I've got WA which seems fun so far, it just takes so long to get to the long holidays!

I'm always scared of downloadable content in case it's harbouring viruses Blush Maybe I should get over it!

What are the challenges? How do they work? I've never heard of them before.

KalokiMallow · 02/01/2011 15:42

If you use well known sites you shouldn't have a problem with viruses. My main problem with DLC is that I DL too much and overload the game Blush

Apocalypse Challenge
Poverty Challenge
Legacy Challenge

Dare I ask you lovelies, how the game runs on your PC?

I'm having a bad time of computers this year and will probably have to send this one back but wondering whether to get same computer again or try elsewhere!

I don't care as long as I can run my Sims nicely!

KalokiMallow · 02/01/2011 16:01

Mine runs quite nicely, and am actually on a laptop!!

Not sure what spec the Sims asks for nowadays.

OP posts:
KalokiMallow · 02/01/2011 16:02

ps. I bought my last desktop PC (currently in storage) specifically for the release of Sims 3 Blush

OP posts:
juneybean · 02/01/2011 16:12

I got this one in September and within 2 weeks the graphics card had died, sims just knackers computers haha Been arguing with the Tech Guys ever since!

Mine too is solely being bought for the sims haha

NineLadiesDancingThroughLife · 02/01/2011 16:50

Mine ran fine on the pc until we installed the latest Windows, and now the game updates aren't compatible. So I reinstalled The Sims and haven't updated it and it runs fine. Bit annoying not having the updates, but I can live with it just.

Am resisting installing it on the laptop, or else I'd do literally nothing else Grin

Those challenges look complicated! But I'm going to have a good read later and maybe have a go.

juneybean · 02/01/2011 16:53

I must admit I do love "doing up" their houses, I love renovating their crappy designs haha

Sassyfrassy · 02/01/2011 19:58

I've just had to reinstall today and get rid of all my custom content since my poor game had ground to a halt. I'm now just downloading my very favourites and try to stick to a couple of sites instead of just getting anything that looks good.

NineLadiesDancingThroughLife · 02/01/2011 20:35

Juney, I know what you mean. I'm a closet interior designer - and I get to do all the stuff I can't afford in real life!

juneybean · 02/01/2011 21:24

I started doing basement kitchens and they look fab! I just wish I had a house like this in the real world Grin

BertieBottlesOfMulledWine · 03/01/2011 12:26

There is a website called more awesome than you - google it because the actual forum address is confusing. They have sticky threads about choosing a computer to run sims 2 or sims 3 on and seem very knowledgeable. They are a bit (okay a LOT) viperish though, more so than mumsnet, so I would use the search rather than posting unless you are feeling very brave.

Mod the sims has forums as well which you could ask in although I haven't been there for a while, it did seem a bit more catered to teenagers than serious player tbh.

juneybean · 03/01/2011 13:49

MATY is awful I can't get past the registration!!!

BertieBottlesOfMulledWine · 03/01/2011 17:09

It's been ages since I registered, but that sounds like them :/ sorry!

tammybear · 03/01/2011 17:13

I LOVE Sims 3. So does DD. We have all the expansion packs... lol. I also don't like the babies stage.

However, we did have a lot of problems when we first installed it. And still do now and again. It all depends on how much room you have on your computer, and how well your computer is for it all.
