Until it comes out, you can use the MN mobile site:

Mumsnet Mobile

i said this on another mn app thread

but

why do we need a mn app for ipds/phones etc

i googled mn, clicked on link, found talk and threads im on and then made a book mark and saved it

i click on to it and immed takes me to threads im on and from there i move about to cms/aibu/chat/tv etc

Because the App will be made to work correctly with an iPhone and, I think, eventually with the Android.

All well and good to follow a bookmark or use the mobile site, but much easier to use an app.

No one will make you use the app, but it will be handy for those of us who want it.

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 28/12/2010 21:51

Allegedly the app is being developed in parallel for iPad and Android and should be with us in the next three months or so but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one

In other news, crossing-out means that YetMoreTech can't read your posts and wreak hideous revenge on your account. Possibly.

Tee2072 · 28/12/2010 21:53

It will be less than three months. ::taps nose::

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2010 22:03

But by making a bookmark it's like an app

I just click onto it like I do with fb or amazon etc

It works perfectly

I'm puzzled blonde Grin

It's not exactly like an app, though.

I can access eBay via a bookmark, but if I want to eBay from my Android phone I use the eBay app because the layout and interface are better to use than just relying on the way the phone's browser renders the website. Similarly with Ocado.

And I wish there were an Amazon app for Android because navigating Amazon on the browser is a pain and I've seen the Amazon iPhone app (DH has it on his iPad) and it is so much easier.

A well-written app will almost always be easier/quicer/more pleasant to use than relying on the website, even a mobile-specific version of the website. It doesn't mean the website is unusable or doesn't work, just that something written for a specific platform is always going to be better-adapted to that platform.

But in the mumsnet mobile site there are things you can't do like namechange or delete threads from your I'm watching bit. You have to go onto the original version to do these things (unless you can do it and I'm missing how)

So the mobile site means you can't do everything and the original site is to fiddly on my iPod touch.

I have bookmarked but I'm very excited about the app which i'm assuming will be far superior.

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/12/2010 22:16

I have never name changed or deleted a thread so don't know if any different

It seems the same layout as on lappy :)

Have to agree that the app for amazon is fab on iPhone - did a lot of Xmas shopping while sitting in huge snow traffic jams Grin

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 28/12/2010 22:53

The namechange thing is a good example -- I'm using my Christmas name at the moment but when I try to post from the MN mobile site it will only remember my normal name and I can't type in the new one before hitting post, so I have to do every post with the normal name, wait for the "Erm... there seems to be something wrong..." error message, then type in my Christmas name and re-submit the post. Which is a little annoying and means I mostly read from phone rather than post.
