Help! can receive mail but not send ( macbook)

What has happened? Yesterday macbook seemed to be dying lots of spinning ball etc

mail on a go slow and after much faffing it seemed to re install itself albeit with all mail lost...

Now it keeps asking for the password - when i put it in - it still asks for it grrrr

Which mail program are you using?

One thing that's worth trying is repairing permissions, follow the instructions at the top of the page here:
