Dd2 wants an ipod, but I only really want to get her the shuffle as she is only 11.

I can't seem to find out wether the ipid suffle can def be used on an ipig though, and I really wanted to get one of those aswell.

Does anyone here know for definate if they are compatible ??

Also dd1 is getting an i touch. Now she has a computer in her room and so am I right in thinking she can just play her music through that and won't need an ipig ???

Yes and no....

iPod Shuffles don't have a normal iPod dock, so you won't be able to pop it into the top of the pig.

However it does have an input jack into which you can connect other audio devices through their headphone output socket with a special double headed cable. However the remote will then have a very limited capability, it won't be able to pause or skip tracks which a proper dock connection would allow. You'd have to do things like play, pause and skip on the Shuffle and also make sure that the Shuffle was set to a fairly high volume that the iPig would then boost up or down according to the volume set on the remote.

The music would probably be on iTunes on the computer so dd1 could just play it through that with no iPod connected.

However if she needed the space back she could delete the music from her computer (after making the iPod manually sync) and then when the iPod is connected you can play music from it through iTunes.

Yes ytou can because they have an auc input and are compatible with all ipods and mp3 players.

But the shuffle won't sit on the ipig, it will go in via a headphone type lead and it won't charge.

Dd1 is getting one to gow ith ehr phillips Go Gear MP4 player.

And I have just typed all that out noticed someone else has wrote the same above Blush

I am getting the super ipig for my Nano Xmas Grin

An i-touch has inbuilt speakers, can be docked or she could store itunes on her pc and just play from there. Not sure about shuffle/ipig though

Thank you, I am slightly less confused now.

Right I have another question now lol.

Is there an mp3 player that I can get that is not as expensive as an ipod nano/touch but that will sit in/on the ipig and work properly ???

I am so clueless about all of this.

No. not afaik. There could be a comany who do cheap apple imitations that have the smae connections, but there would be no gurantee that the remote would work with it and the sound quality would be likely to be very poor. Apple have the monopoly I'm afraid.

Have you tried ebay/amazon for 2nd hand ones? Or the apple store (online) for refurbed?

"and the sound quality would be likely to be very poor."

I can understand massive query over anything interfacing properly apart from a genuine Apple, but not sure how you come to that conclusion about sound quality - I suppose it depends how cheap one is willing to go... or whether the output via the interface would be comparable with a genuine Apple product.

I don't think that any player can legally have the iPod Dock Interface, it's an Apple only thing. You can get dubious knock off copies that have it, but I'm really not sure how far I would trust them.
