My Nokia is slowly dying on me and I can't use it for emails, mn, facebok etc so I have been looking at getting a new phone but I can't decide between an iPhone, Blackberry (preferable Torch) and an HTC Desire.

Does anyone know pros and cons about each of them? and of course which apps are essential Smile

I got mine via carphonewarehouse and it has automatic wifi (as in it connects automatically whenever there is one available) and bloody good data connection as well.
They are talking pants.

I luuuuuuuuurve my HTC Desire. Wouldn't be without it.

AitchTwoOh · 14/11/2010 20:56

oh great, loads of desire geekoids. best apps please, apart from angry birds... am stuck on level 20 anyway so tiring of that. Grin
toddler lock i am finding keeps the kids at bay. oh, and i have a few films on there and some sesame st and tom and jerry downloads, which are handy when the little ones kick off in a restaurant.

DooinMeCleanin · 14/11/2010 20:58

Kindle app. Talking Tom is funny if you have young dc they will love it.

ClaireDeLoon · 14/11/2010 21:02

I have an iPhone 4 as private phone and a blackberry as my work phone. Much prefer the iPhone (it's my second) for the apps. I would think from the sound of it the HTC desire would be great too.

The blackberry is the most dull boring thing in the world. Great for email. But email for my private phone I just don't care about really. All the blackberry means is you get it quicker, but not really taht much quicker.

Alchemy. Dd1 loves it, we made a dragon today!

I find the jigsaw games are good for littlies, we have disney princess and toy story, and Talking Tom (has dd2 in hysterics every time). Zebra paint is good colouring in one and Doodle kids is fun. Also Tic Tac Toe, air controller, classic simon and maze. use all of them to keep them quiet.

I also have Guardian app which downloads the whole paper overnight on my home wifi and then I can read it offline during the day, very cool. Also cardiotracker (good for recording runs etc) and menstrual calendar. Not exciting but the only app I have paid for.

For grownups Grid droid, Fling, Goodbye brick, Mancala, Teeter, Wordup, all good timewasty games.

I discovered that angry birds doesn't work on the wildfire yet. Am Not Happy.

DH had an iphone but it got envirofone'd and he now has a Desire which he adores but the battery is crap - even with the update which was supposed to work.

I have a blackberry which I adore. I have only heard bad things about the Torch (which is basically just the Storm with a keyboard)

AitchTwoOh · 14/11/2010 21:21

thanks, ladies, will look those up. i like mytracks so far, tracks running etc, and i have another reader that is like kindle, am currently re reading sense and sensibility, with some sherlock holmeses for even lighter relief. will do guardian app, for sure, cheers for that.

i did a wank thing with my battery when i first charged it, all this charging for 8 hours then switching off then charging then switching off, it's supposed to calibrate the battery. who knows? i can certainly twat around on mine, using the wifi, watching clips, googling etc for a day without running into any trouble. it's never run out yet. here is the link, am not offering any reason as to why it works, just saying that my battery is okay having done it

I love my new HTC Desire HD. Brilliant. I spent ages researching and couldn't come up with any reasons to spend the extra cash for an iPhone. (Apart from I can't get some of my itunes library to work on it, but that is another thread!)

Try Dial-a-phone, I got mine on Orange for £25 p/m, free handset, unlimited texts, 300 mins, 500mb data, 2 months free line rental. And if you go through Quidco you should be entitled to £60 cashback too.

catinthehat2 - loved that photo - esp the pizza guy...

ClaireDeLoon - Blackberry has always been great for e-mail. Web browsing is really just a bonus and newer devices seem to handle in better (no big axe to grind, I have only used an old Windows Mobile up to now, but might lean more towards Android than iPhone, and would consider Blackberry on basis a lot of my time is spent on e-mail and expect it to increase rather than decrease, so a keyboard is important to me, rather than touch-screen kbd).

A Blackbery can survive being dropped in a full mug of hot tea! Blush

micku5 · 18/11/2010 17:51

I got my new HTC Desire HD today,Grin looking forward to playing with it and downloading a few time wasting apps on it. Even the guy at phone shop recommended angry birds.

I have a BB curve 3G and I love it. I hate touchscreens though.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/11/2010 19:01

The blackberry is solid, feels well made.

ShittyBangBang · 21/11/2010 07:41

HTC Desire best phone by miles.

NetworkGuy · 21/11/2010 13:53

Until you get the Desire HD, perhaps ?

:)

ShittyBangBang · 21/11/2010 16:25

Know someone with the HD, too bulky for me.

ShittyBangBang · 27/11/2010 09:46

If anyone cannot afford the desire, the San Francisco is a good alternative or, the Toshiba tg01 now has android, as of last night, if anyone has one stuffed in a drawer!

SoupDragon · 27/11/2010 09:47

blackberrys are fugly.

I am i love with my iPhone. it was an extravagance when i bought it but now is an essential.

ShittyBangBang · 27/11/2010 09:54

Ah but soupy, it didn't even make the shortlist for best phone. Wink Grin
